Rameybasketball Fall League: Championship Game Standouts
Prep Hoops Missouri was on hand for the final day of the Rameybasketball Fall League at Cardinal Ritter College Prep. The championship game was an exciting affair between Team UNC and Team SLU. It went down to the final seconds with Team UNC taking a 75-74 victories. Here is a look at the standouts from Sunday’s championship game.
MVP: Mario McKinney- The 2019 standout guard from Vashon was completely unstoppable in scoring a game-high 45 points to lead UNC to the victory. He was on fire in the first half with 18 points, but he was just getting started as he tossed in 27 more points in the second half. In the semifinals, he scored 28 points, including a last-second runner to give UNC at 66-64 victory over Team Illinois. The 6’1″ McKinney has the ability to score from just about anywhere on the floor. He attacks the basket and can finish around the rim with both hands. His perimeter jumper is effective and he has also developed a nice baseline turnaround jumper in the post. He is just dynamic to watch.
Other Standouts:
Malek Davis – The 5’10” 2019 guard from Cardinal Ritter scored a team-high 30 points for Team SLU in the loss. Davis has an old-school game with slick handles and a smooth mid-range jumper that is very effective. He’s quick, but he can change speeds to get to the basket to score at the rim or on floaters with either hand. If you back off of him, he will drop a 3-pointer.
Kobe Smith – The 6’4″ 2018 guard from Ritenour scored 17 points for Team SLU. He is a tough matchup with his size and strength and skill set on the wing. He can knock down jumpers off the bounce, but he also uses his size and strength to power his way to the basket to get buckets. He has a real scorer’s mentality.
Will Shumpert – The 6’4″ 2019 forward from CBC scored 11 points and did a nice job sweeping the glass for Team SLU. He is very explosive around the rim, where he can throw down dunks in traffic. He plays with a high motor.
Courtland Sol – The 6’2″ guard from St. Louis Christian scored 13 points in the win for Team UNC. He didn’t shoot the 3-pointer as well as he has been throughout league play, but he did a good job of attacking the basket and getting tough buckets in the lane.
