As we head into the start of the 2017-2018 prep hoop season in Idaho, there are few names in which have come up in recruiting news circles. A couple of commitments really grabbed the headlines this past Summer and now into early Fall as two highly ranked players in our 2018 list have pledged to their respective schools for the next level.
At the beginning of August, the Rice family, certainly a familiar last name to hoop fans in Idaho as father Leon Rice is the head coach of Boise State University and his son Max is currently a standout player at Bishop Kelly, gave the Idaho basketball world some very interesting news. Max is set to enjoy his senior season at Bishop Kelly and pad his already impressive career for the Knights, and he will also be playing as a commit to his Dad’s team at Boise State University.
Max Rice will be a preferred walkon for the Boise State Broncos after his senior season, and will be a nice addition to an already talented group of players for Leon Rice and his staff. Rice, a 6-foot, 3-inch guard, is a two-time 4A first team All-Idaho selection and averaged 18.5 points. Under the preferred walkon status, it will also allow head coach Leon Rice the ability to not use one of the four available scholarships for the 2018 class. Due to Rice’s father working at Boise State, his tuition will also be free, another great perk.
In addition to the Rice commitment news, our third overall ranked 2018 player, Daxton Carr, pledged his commitment to play for Cal Poly recently. Carr plays for Highland and held offers from Idaho State (who has our fourth overall ranked 2018 player committed, Brayden Parker), Utah State, Air Force, and UC Santa Barbara.
Carr is supremely talented and at 6-foot, 7-inches, and has the size to compete at the Division 1 level. In Carr’s Twitter post about his decision, he mentions the goal of playing D1 basketball. “It’s been a dream of mine to play D1 basketball since I was a kid and now being able to say that I have achieved my dream is unreal to me!” Carr wrote on his Twitter post.
Another recent development in recruiting news comes from Jackson Hill, a 6-foot, 5-inch guard for Burley High School. With a 40 inch vertical on top of his versatile game, the athletic Hill who ranks 31st in our 2018 list, has a couple NWAC schools interested in him. Currently, Southwestern Oregon Community College and Centralia College are recruiting Hill according to his comments in the interview piece.
Further news has been regarding Dylan Anderson, Highland who according to Mountain Hoops Twitter account is taking an official visit to Presentation College.
