As we look ahead to the 2017-2018 Idaho prep hoops season we are spotlighting three players in 3A to know about, as each player stands to follow up their impressive high school careers thus far, and help their teams find success while raising the level of their game even more so in the upcoming campaign.
The players highlighted below have all excelled in their prep careers thus far, earning various honors and leading their teams both in statistical categories as well as on and off the court. Each prospect has a tremendous opportunity to carry on the positive momentum in which they have created for themselves already, as the high school hoops season in Idaho looms just around the corner.
Here are our three to watch in 3A this season, be sure to keep these youngsters on your radars all year long as their level of play continues to rise.
Clancy Thomas, 6’6, Forward, Snake River
The reigning 3A All-Idaho Player of the Year, Thomas’ explosive nature out on the court will turn heads yet again this upcoming prep hoops season. Thomas averaged an eye-popping 15.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game last year, and spearheaded his team to a runner-up finish at the state tournament.
Thomas should certainly be a player for the next level, as interest is surely going to grow with another season under his belt in this, his senior year. His head coach (Robert Coombs) at Snake River, told the Idaho Statesman last Spring, “(He’s the) top player to ever play at Snake River High School in the past 24 years that I have been head coach.”
Gifted, and hard-working, Thomas tops our list of 3A players to hone in on for this upcoming year.
Chase Jerome, 6’0, Guard, Kellogg
Jerome last tallied 12 points as his team took home third place in the 3A state tournament and also earned a spot on the 3A All-Idaho second team list. Not a bad showing at all as the versatile guard returns for his senior season.
Jerome posted averages of 14.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists last year, and will need to keep those totals going in his final year to help give his team a chance for the coveted state title.
Braydon Jensen, 6’3, Guard/Forward, Parma
A 3A SRV All-Conference first team player last season as a sophomore, Jensen returns to the prep hardwood in 2017-2018 in hopes of guiding Parma even further in the state tournament after failing to repeat as champions last year.
In big games, Jensen proved to provide a lift as in the title game last year against Gooding, Jensen poured in 22 points despite the losing effort. Our lone 2019 player in our “3 in 3A to watch,” Jensen will be a name to keep an eye on for the next couple seasons in Parma.
