Each prospect has a tremendous opportunity to carry on the positive momentum in which they have created for themselves already, as the high school hoops season in Idaho looms just around the corner.
Here are our two to watch in 1A/1A II this season, be sure to keep these youngsters on your radars all year long as their level of play continues to rise.
1A
Emmit Taylor III, 6’4, Forward, Lapwai
Taylor’s tool box entails plenty as the wing who helped Lapwai to the state title last season returns on the heels of two straight 1A Division I All-Idaho selections. Taylor is extremely heralded as a shooter both from long range and from mid range.
Taylor led his team in scoring averaging 20.2 points per game while shooting impressive percentages from the field (51% fg, 43% 3pt), yet his length also allows him to finish at a high rate of efficiency around the rim as well.
Overall, Taylor is well packaged player that will power Lapwai into the state title conversation once again.
1A Division II
Jonny Hillman, 6’1, Guard, Genesis Prep
Last season as a sophomore, Hillman took his team to its first ever state championship as he posted averages of 16.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game for Genesis Prep, a private Christian school in northern Idaho.
A guard who can finish under contact, Hillman has proven to showcase his abilities at both ends of the floor highlighted by his ability to create turnovers on the defensive end. In his junior year Hillman will look to add strength and size to his frame while further sharpening his skillset that already sets him apart from his peers.
