Midlick on College Choice
Reigning Leaf-Chronicle First Team wing Will Midlick (Clarksville Rossview) picked his college home earlier this fall. Sunday he talked about what led up to the decision and previewed the Rossview 2017-2018 season for PrepHoops.

Before his father, David Midlick accepted the Austin Peay Women’s Head Basketball Coach position, the whole family lived around the Cleveland, Mississippi Delta State campus.

“I used to live down there for two years (2012-2014),” said Will Midlick. “I am familiar with the community and that is a factor that led to it.”
Midlick has fond memories of the northwest Mississippi region. In 2013-14, Delta State Head Coach Jim Boone led the Statesmen to one of their best seasons in program history, as Delta State went 26-7 overall, captured the Gulf South Conference regular season title and made a run to the NCAA Sweet 16 and finished the year ranked No. 12 in the country.
Certainly seeing the success firsthand contributed to Midlick’s eagerness to recapture the magic. He listed two major factors in the decision for DSU.
“Good players/coaches and I am familiar with the community.”
The official visit was thoroughly enjoyed by Will Midlick.
“Just mainly I just really liked the players there on the visit,” said Will Midlick. “Coaching staff is phenomenal. Coach Boone, (Assistant Coach) Szorc…at their practice they do just a great job.”
For his efforts in 2013-2014, Jim Boone’s peers named him GSC Coach of the Year; the seventh time in his career he has captured such an honor.
Will Midlick intends to sign next month for Delta State. He anticipates enrolling as a Mathematics/Pre-Engineering Major.
Rossview Preview
In the eyes of Will Midlick three Clarksville Rossview starters are locked in. Shooting guard Austin Jackson (64 made 3-pointers) and Will look to be operating on the wings. Max Leinweber will continue to be a frontcourt fixture.
Point guard falls to Kole Monson or Isaiah Phillips. Both will play. Expect senior Cole Levin to start in the post.
