Jericole Hellems commits to North Carolina State
Another standout basketball player from Chaminade College Prep is headed to Tobacco Road.
Forward Jericole Hellems gave a verbal commitment to attend North Carolina State on Friday evening. The 6’7″ Hellems made the announcement official on his Twitter account. He close NC State over South Carolina, Florida and several other high major programs. He is ranked the No. 3 player in the state in the Prep Hoops Missouri Class of 2018 rankings.
Hellems becomes the second player from Chaminade to cast his lot with an Atlantic Coast Conference school in the last two years. McDonald’s All-American Jayson Tatum played last season at Duke before becoming the No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics.
Hellems became one of the nation’s top sought after prospects when he enjoyed an enormous performance at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in July. He averaged more than 25 points a game in leading Brad Beal Elite to a berth in the Final Four. In just a week, Hellems ascended from a mid-major prospect to a high-major recruit with more than two dozen offers from Power 5 conference schools.
As a junior, Hellems averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 45 percent from 3-point range and 79 percent from the field in leading the Red Devils to a 24-7 record and a fourth-place finish in the Class 5 state tournament.
