Battle in Bullhead: Underclassmen Watch List
Carter John 5’11 PG 2021 Bradshaw Mountain
John really surprised me with his feel for the game. He possesses a number of the tools to be ready to make an impact early. With that said, it was his understanding of when to attack and when to defer that surprised me. A lot of young prospects have a tendency to give the basketball to the older players and hide in the corner. Carter did not do that and chose his spots wisely.
JJ White 6’0 PG 2021 Ironwood
White did not look afraid of the older competition whatsoever. He was willing to put his shoulder down and attack the rim and did so as well as anyone for the majority of the day. As he continues to get more athletic and mature, his game could skyrocket to a whole other level.
Prince Liikahikilani 6’5 SF/PF 2020 Mohave
Liikahikilani looked raw at times. However, there is no denying his potential. He is well built and plays hard. As his skillset and feel for the game continue to improve, he will be able to maximize some of the physical tools that he has been blessed with. Further, he was coachable and a hard worker throughout the day.
Jacob Leslie 6’5 SF/PF 2020 MALC
Leslie did not participate in the event due to an injury. However, he would be an underclassmen who is worthy of college coaches keeping an eye on. He has good length and a good feel for the game. He does a lot of the little things necessary to be a good player and has a good feel for the game despite his youth.
Albert Matute 6’3 SF 2020 Etiwanda
Matute was one of the more athletically inclined prospects at the event. He was quick and explosive. As Matute continues to get a more well-balanced game, he could be a problem in the future. He demonstrated on a couple of occasions that he is capable of shooting the basketball from deep as well.
Josiah Hooper 6’3 SF 2020 Kingman
Hooper has good size, strength, and understanding of the game despite his youth. In a number of pick and roll situations, he did a great job of forcing a switch in which he immediately got good position on the block and finished. Moreover, he is good on the glass.
Zachary Neal 6’3 2020 MALC
Neal is still raw in certain areas of his game. However, he has good athleticism and length. Further, he plays the game the right way and brings a lot of toughness and competitiveness to his team. As Neal continues to work on aspects of his game, he has a number of the tools needed to be a very solid high school prospect.
