High School’s across Kentucky have opened their doors for the start of a new school year, leading Prep Hoops Kentucky to open its doors to “way-to-early” preseason outlooks. Over the next few days we will give you our “Super Six Projections”, breaking down our picks for the top six players in Kentucky’s 16 regions. Here we breakdown the 6th Region.
Kentucky’s 6th Region is arguably one of the most talented in the Bluegrass State. In this addition of “Super Six”, we’ve added a number of other players who are sure to be top performers throughout the upcoming season.
6th Region “Super Six” Projections:
- Anthony Wales, Fern Creek / 5’10 PG / 2018
The Samford commit averaged 14.3 points per game as a junior on a Fern Creek team that appeared in it’s first ever state tournament. Expect Wales’ senior season to be focused on one thing – a repeat appearance and hopes of bring a banner back to Louisville.
- Trey Hill, Pleasure Ridge Park / 6’4 G / 2018
Hill has a couple D1 offers and was evaluated by Eastern Kentucky here recently. As a junior at Pleasure Ridge Park, Hill averaged 15.2 points per game.
- Clint Wickliffe, Fern Creek / 6’6 F/ 2018
Wickliffe visited NAIA power Georgetown College this weekend. Like Wales, Wickliffe was a huge part of Fern Creek’s run to the state tournament last season. The athletic forward averaged right at 9 points and 4 rebounds per game as a junior.
- JJ Weaver, Moore / 6’6 F / 2019
Moore won 20 games last season and competed strong in both district and region play. Weaver had a huge hand in that success, and he was only a sophomore. He averaged right at 11 points and 6 rebounds per game. He is consider by most to be a top 10 prospect in Kentucky’s 2019 class
- Ahmad Price, Fern Creek / 6’3 G / 2018
Did we mention how good Fern Creek could still be next season? Price has D1 to D2 interest and it will be interesting to see where he lands after he completes his senior season. Price averaged 11.5 points per game as a junior.
- Curt Lewis, Valley / 6’2 G / 2018
The 6’2 guard from Valley High School averaged 13 points as a junior last season. He and junior-to-be Cameron Wilson helped lead Valley to a 22-9 overall record.
- Cameron Wilson, Valley / 6’2 G / 2018
Along with Lewis, Wilson is a key returner that could play a huge role in Valley making a run at the 6th Region title. At 22-9, Valley had the 2nd best record in the region and lost to Fern Creek (the champions) in the regional tournament 62-72. As a sophomore, Wilson averaged 15.1 points.
- Stephen Franklin, Louisville Doss / 6’0 G / 2018
Franklin was the second leading scorer behind now Wright State freshman Jaylon Hall last season, averaging 12.3 points per game. Franklin will be looked to to pick up some of the slack left by Hall if the Dragons want to remain near the top of the region like they have in the last few years.
- Michael Burns, Louisville Butler / 6’8 PF / 2018
Burns is a perfect fit for the NAIA/D2 level and that is where most project him playing at the next level. He only averaged around 6 points last season, but the 6’8 forward is gifted with athleticism and size.
- JaQauy Wales, Louisville Butler / 5’10 PG / 2018
Wales averaged right at 10 points last season and is sneaky athletic vertically. He’s a pesky defender and tough to stay in front of on the offensive end.
