Recruiting Report: Tyler Kaminski (2018)
A basketball conversation with Medina’s 6’7” forward Tyler Kaminski (2018) is reminiscent of discussions with point guards, rather than big men.
“I impact the game most with what’s inside my head, meaning my smarts and knowing where to be and where to go during what’s happening on the court … My family is obviously a basketball family. So, we kind of know what’s going on and where we should be,” Kaminski said.
Kaminski’s background and IQ also carries over to his recruitment process.
“My value in a [college] program is definitely the head coach and the assistant coaches. If they’re the right fit for me, I think I’ll know that right off the bat once I meet them. I think that, for me basketball wise, is the most important thing,” Kaminski said.
At the moment, Kaminski hasn’t been on any campus visits. But, visits to Lourdes, Sienna Heights, and Davenport, will surely come during his senior year.
“[Lourdes] saw me in the middle of the summer and they didn’t offer me until a month later … They want me to come up and see a practice and everything, like, all in one day.”
“Sienna Heights, they have been talking to me for a while. Davenport, they called me and asked me some questions,” Kaminski said.
Kaminski said that he’s in the process of figuring out visit dates that work for the program and himself, so that he can also visit Sienna Heights and Davenport.
With Lourdes being his only offer, it’s safe to say that there’s still a lot to play out before Kaminski makes a college decision.
“I’m going to let things play out and if I feel like I have my better fit at one program, I’m going to tell them that and stuff,” Kaminski said.
Kaminski’s transcript includes a 3.0 GPA and a 21 score on the ACT. He does plan on re-taking the ACT again.

We noticed a step forward in Kaminski’s game during this grassroots season. Specifically, Kamisnki, a stretch-4 offensive talent, gained a presence in the paint as a rim-protector. He’s blossomed into a player than impacts the game in a number of ways.
“I score most of my points with my back to the basket and also the three-point line … I consider myself more a stretch-4,” Kaminksi said. He also mentioned that his mid-range game is an area of focus right now.
A blend of tough defense and a versatile scoring game will likely open D-II, D-III, and NAIA, options for Kaminski. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s a natural leader.
“I’m one of the vocal seniors on my Medina team. So I got to step up with that … Last year’s Medina team, I was the leader then too because there weren’t vocal seniors,” Kaminski said.
