Recruiting Report: Gavin Schipper (2019)
Junior guard Gavin Schipper of Sioux Falls Christian played for the two best 16u teams in the PHD area and is now ready to compete with the Chargers.
“I had a great year playing with the South Dakota Storm, we were very successful and we had a great team and great summer,” Schipper said. “I’ve decided to play with the Attack for my upcoming summer to get more recruitment going for me.
“Some of my top highlights were when we won the Minnesota Comets tourney at the end of April that really put our team on the map.
“I’ve been trying to improve my game all summer and have been working with college players to do so. I’m going to try to beat my three-point shooting percentage from last year at 54 percent so this will be a tough goal for me.”
Schipper seemed to hit three treys a half every time Prep Hoops watched him this spring and summer. The jumper is there. Gavin also wants to be a better all around halfcourt player this winter.
“I’m always trying to work on my athleticism to be good at that next level along with being more of a floor general on the court, being able to see and know your teammates is one of the most important parts of the game,” Schipper said.
SFC always has talent but this year with Schipper and so many other guards you can expect the team to look a little different.
“We are losing three seniors this year who started at Sioux Falls Christian,” Gavin said. “We will have a very talented team this year with a bunch of shooters. We will be more of a run and gun type of team this year and we have a very good chance at winning state this year.”
Gavin is the type of shooter that college programs want in the future so they are tracking him early.
“I have talked a bit with Dakota Wesleyan and Coach Wilber as well as Mount Marty and coach Schilling, two great programs that have been getting some of the top players around South Dakota,” Schipper said.
“I talked with coaching staff at the University of Sioux Falls when I was at there elite camp this summer as well as some letters from Southwest Minnesota State.”
Who has helped Gavin locally and who is his favorite hooper? Gavin told PHD today.
“I have been working out with Steven Schaefer from Augustana and he’s helped me quite a bit over this past summer to improve my overall game,” Gavin explained.
“My favorite hooper would have to be Damian Lillard, his game is so smooth and he can do it all. I love watching players that can come up big in the fourth quarter and he’s for sure one of them.”
