Recruiting Report: Chad Morsette Jr (2019)
Chad Morsette Jr had a strong year at Beulah and then followed that up helping the North Dakota Phenom to a nice year.
“My top highlights were winning two championships at the Summer Slam Pentagon and Spring Jam champions,” Chad told PHD. “My team went to multiple championship games and we lost some.
“Just worked hard over the summer and it all paid off to get into those championship games. That’s all my teammates and our goals were just trying to get multiple championship and we came out with two.”
The Miners went 20-4 a year ago but dropped a one score game in the Regions to Trinity. Leaders always take some of that on their shoulders and Chad wants to be more of a leader now that he is an upperclassmen.
“I want to be a good leader on and off the court,” Morsette said. “I want to be the first in gym or weight room and etc. I want to gain trust – teammates knowing I have there back as well they have my back so when season kicks off we’re all on the same page with the goals we want to reach as a team.”
Beulah didn’t lost much to graduation so expectations are high.
“We have a chance to go back to the regional championship to advance to the state tourney,” Chad explained. “We have four returning starters and the open spot is open for the two guys that were the 6th and 7th man last year.
“We have 2 or 3 juniors that played really well last season and that’s going to add to the 7th and 8th man.”
What about college programs? Chad said he’s heard from a couple so far.
“San Diego State University wanted me to do one day visit and the Jamestown North Dakota coach invited me to a workout. I want to wait my options because my AAU coach told me to wait on my options.”
Chad prepares like he feels his basketball idol would.
“I compare my game like LeBron James because I like to fill my stats like him,” Chad said. “My goal is to have a triple double in rebounds, assists, points.
“My favorite hoopers would be players that can play on both ends of the floor and I think that’s what make teams great. Those teams go deep into tournaments, playoffs, and etc.”
