Prospect Watch: Trenton Barbour (2018)
Class of 2018 post player Trenton Barbour of Jamestown is a small-school standout who really looked to broaden his horizons during the summer grassroots season.
The 6’5″ Barbour is a top player for tiny Class 1 Jamestown. After leading the Eagles to a 17-8 record in 2017, he spent his summer playing for MO Team Carroll Select, where he got a chance to test his skills against some top competition on a weekly basis.
“The competition was so much better than what you see at the Class 1 level,” Barbour said. “The players are so much bigger and faster, it really helped me to play faster. I know this is what I’m going to see when I get to college. It showed me that I have a lot of work on. Every Class 1 or 2 player should get out and play AAU ball during the summer because there’s nothing like it.”
Barbour has been a force in Mid-Missouri at the small-school level during his career at Jamestown. As a junior, he averaged nearly 20 points a game as he led Jamestown to the Cooper County Activities Association championship. He was a first-team All-CCAA selection and an All-District pick as well.
Barbour is a solid inside scorer who also loves to rebound. He put up some big numbers during the season, including a performance against Pilot Grove in January in which he had 18 points, 25 rebounds and 13 blocked shots.
“I think my rebounding is definitely my strength,” he said. “I’ve been working hard to improve my offensive game.”
With one season left to play, Barbour is hoping to lead Jamestown to its best season yet. With a strong nucleus back from a 17-8 season, he has high hopes for himself and his teammates.
“I really want to make All-State because we haven’t had an All-State player from Jamestown since the mid 1980’s,” he said. “We also want to win a district championship. That hasn’t happened here since 1980. I’ve always wanted to get one of those banners on the wall.”
