Prospect Watch: Mike Sanders (2018)
Class of 2018 point guard Mike Sanders of SLUH has been a sparkplug for the Jr. Billikens throughout his career.
The 5’10” Sanders has played a key role in SLUH’s success joining the varsity as a freshman. In those three seasons, has has provided perimeter shooting, ball handling, defensive intensity and toughness to a team that has advanced to the Class 5 Final Four twice and won the Metro Catholic Conference last season.
Sanders have received collegiate interest from a number of schools at different levels, including Westmont U, La Sierra University, Missouri Baptist, UMSL, Illinois-Springfield, Lindenwood, LMU, Millikin and Western Illinois.
With six seniors having graduated from last year’s conference championship team, Sanders will look to increase his scoring load as well as be the Jr. Bills’ primary ball handler and decision maker.
“I’ve always been a leader from the first day I’ve played as a Jr. Bill,” Sanders said. “This season, I will take on the scoring load along with (fellow senior) Matt Leritz. I will be pretty ball dominant throughout the season. My goal this season is to win the MCC again and get to state again.”
Sanders spent the summer playing with the St. Louis Shooting Stars during the grassroots season. His leadership at point guard helped the Stars enjoyed an excellent month of July as they won several big games.
“This summer, I have improved on being more aggressive on the offensive end,” he said. “I have also improved my strength and conditioning and being more of a vocal leader.
