Prospect Watch: Jeramy Shaw (2019)
Class of 2019 wing player Jeramy Shaw has breathed some very strong life into a small Valley Park program in the St. Louis area.
The 6’4″ Shaw is a versatile player who has played several different positions for the Hawks during his two years as a varsity starter. He combines his versatility with explosive athleticism to be an impact performer at the high school level. When he gets out in transition, he’s very good at throwing down dunks on the break.
“I try to be an overall playmaker,” Shaw said. “I can play point guard and I can post up a little bit. I do what my team needs me to do.”
As a freshman in 2016, Shaw was an immediate starter who averaged 15.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.7 steals in leading Valley Park to a 20-5 record. He was even better as a sophomore as he averaged 19.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 4.8 steals to lead the Hawks to a 16-9 record. Shaw should surpass the 1,000-point mark sometime early during his junior season.
During one game against rival Hancock, Shaw erupted for 40 points, 17 rebounds, 10 steals and six assists. He also had a performance of 25 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and six blocks in a victory over Orchard Farm.
Shaw spent the past summer playing for the Gateway Basketball Club 16U team that competed in the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet Series. Coming from a small school, the Gauntlet gave Shaw an opportunity show his skills against some top players from around the country.
“There was a lot of good competition in the Gauntlet and it helped me get better,” Shaw said. “I struggled a little bit at times, but it worked out. Coming from a small school, I felt I needed to prove myself against higher level kids.”
