Prospect Watch: Adam Moore (2018)
The Moore family has been a fixture in the Duchesne basketball program for the past eight years.
Former Pioneers Drew Moore (2011-14) and Alex Moore (2013-16) were standout players at Duchesne before moving on to the collegiate ranks at Lindenwood University and Columbia College, respectively.
Class of 2018 forward Adam Moore is the third and the last of the brothers and the 6’6″ forward has done an excellent job of keeping up the family tradition of excellence at Duchesne. He will most certainly follow Drew and Alex to the college ranks, having received interest from the likes of UMSL, Columbia College, Illinois Springfield and Truman State.
“Having my brothers go through Duchesne before me was truly a blessing because not only did I become familiar with the program, but I became familiar with the coaches and everyone involved in the school,” Adam Moore said. “Both of my brothers pushed me to become better. We always argue with each other saying who is the best of the brothers to play at Duchesne and that motivates me.”
Moore entered the high school ranks as a excellent jump shooter who can play the Stretch 4 position, but he has continued to improve in all areas of his game during his career. He has also become a dependable ball handler who can also score in the low post and pass the ball. Playing grassroots ball with the Gateway 17U team on the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet Series helped Moore’s development.
“Over the summer, a couple of things I improved upon were my ball handling and perimeter defending,” he said. “Playing in the Gauntlet was helpful because it threw bigger and more athletic bodies at me.”
As a junior, Moore averaged 12.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 36 percent from 3-point range in helping the Pioneers to an 18-9 record. Duchesne’s season ended abruptly with an upset loss to Lutheran North in the district playoffs. That loss has served as a motivating force for Moore and his teammates, who return intact for the upcoming season.
“The goal for the team is to win state,” he said. “We want to be the best team and we feel we have the tools. The Lutheran North game has motivated me and my teammates in a way that I have never been motivated before. My offseason workouts were probably the most intense they have been. It’s been in the back of my mind ever since that game ended.”
