PHI Freshman Showcase: Team 1 Breakdown
With the PHI Freshman Showcase now complete, we are going through film and looking back at the games and players from the event. Now, we breakdown each team from the 3rd annual Showcase. Here are our notes on Team 1.
Luke Lacey – 6’1 PG – Brownsburg (IN)
Luke is a tough guard who can battle on both ends of the floor. Has some skill to him and will do well as a defensive player on the ball. He rebounds the ball really well and goes in search for it. Good off the catch from three as well. Has a little flair to his game as well.
Khristian Lander – 5’11 PG – Evansville Reitz (IN)
Lander is a lefty guard with tons of speed and pace to his game. He likes to pull-up from three a ton but isn’t a consistent shooter yet. Has great frame and length to be able to play degense at a high level. Active on both ends of the floor. Creative dribbler who can get into the lane well.
Khamani Smith – 6’2 SF – Fort Wayne Northrop (IN)
Khamani is a long, rangy wing that is built more on his athleticism right now. Will have the ability to be a high-end defender with time as he showed he can switch on different guys. A little passive right now but has the handles to get to the rim and length to finish.
Luka Balac – 6’1 SG – Munster (IN)
Luka is a big, strong guard with some athleticism and scoring ability. Smart player with good vision and passing ability. Isn’t the most athletic player but has some straight line speed and can elevate a bit. Is built more on his ability to drive and finish using his body.
Curt Hopf – 6’6 PF – Forest Park (IN)
Curt is a tall low post forward. Not extremely athletic but very mobile and aggressive. Willing to get in on the boards and can finish well at the rim. Defensively he needs more athleticism to be able to stay on mobile forwards. Has shown the ability to finish with either hand and is adept at getting off looks at the rim.
Malik Stanley – 5’10 PG – Warren Central (IN)
Malik is a smaller lead guard with a good feel for scoring the ball. Has a really good perimeter jumper and the handles to cut through the lane and get at the rim. Showed ability to be effective against length. Can put up points in a hurry with the ball in his hands. Scores well at two of the three levels.
Tarron White – 5’9 PG – Fort Wayne Northrop (IN)
Tarron is a small, lean guard with some strength and good ball handling. Handles pressure well and can really get to the basket. Jumper is okay but will need some work. Will be a solid point guard option that should continue to get taller.
Donovan Bennett – 6’4 PF – Crispus Attucks (IN)
Donovan is a long, well-built forward with strength and a good rebounding ability. He’s still a bit raw in terms of offensive skill but he can handle the ball well for his size. Active and likes to attack the rim at times. Consistency and a jumper will really make a huge difference.
Douglas Konieczny – 6’4 SF – South Bend St. Joesph’s (IN)
Doug is a long, lanky wing with the ability to play on the arc. Loves to shoot but a little inconsistent right now. Has upside as his frame fills out. Has some handles to create along the wing. Really good length on the frame. Seems comfortable for a player his size and weight.
Dakota Buie – 6’5 PF – Crispus Attucks (IN)
Dakota is a long, lean wing with good hands and he plays very rangy on the defensive end. A little raw on the offensive end but he has some ability to effect things on the boards and can score off of garbage plays because of it. Does more right now using his athleticism but showed enough skill to dream on.
