Isaiah Sulack Recruiting Update (2018)
Isaiah Sulack (Team NLP AAU) is moving in to Believe Prep shortly.
“My dad knew a couple people that were working down there and they have just asking me to come,” said Isaiah Sulack. “I had a couple D2 schools that I was looking at after high school, but my main goal was going D1, so I am going to prep school.”
Originally a Class of 2017 recruit, Sulack transioned to a new position (PG) this summer and elected to reclass.
“He went to Christian Academy of Knoxville this past year,” said Team NLP Head Coach Steve Cook mid-August. “Graduated. He was a 2017 kid, but he is reclassifying to 2018. He is going to Believe Prep and do a fifth year with Believe Prep in Athens, TN. Right now his recruitment has been bubbling up. The majority of D2 schools.”
Isaiah Sulack would have been able to sign D2. Coach Cook mentioned St. Cloud State and Barry College as interested programs.
“I heard from University of Indianapolis, Lee (TN), and a little bit from LMU,” said Isaiah Sulack.
His personal goal for this year is improving the recruiting looks and elevating his game and name to recruiters.
“He is wanting to have that opportunity to play D1, so he is just going to play it out,” said Coach Cook. “If it stays at D2 he will be willing to do D2 next year.”
Coach Cook made an interesting point. If Sulack did go the D2 route now, then he might be redshirting the first season anyway. He might have been lifting weights or adjusting to his new position and then be “starting” college basketball in a year anyway. So, why not spend the year developing/lifting at a prep school and then hopefully improve the options.
“Isaiah has to get in the weight room and get his body right to play at the next level,” said Coach Cook.
New Position
Isaiah Sulack discussed the adaptation process.
“I just transferred to point guard over the summer,” said Sulack. “I played point guard all July. That is kind of what I am doing right now.”
How did he do?
“I felt, considering it was my first time as a point guard, that is was going pretty well,” said Isaiah Sulack. “I could definitely improve on some things.”
Point guard is a very unique position. The burden of running the offense, dictating tempo and even communicating the coach directives all converge.
“I felt like I learned how to be more vocal,” said Sulack. “Shooting guard, you don’t really have to be vocal. Point guard…I had to be a lot more vocal to get the team organized to set up all the plays. Just running the team…I never had to do that before. It is different. I feel like I got a little better in that.”
Coach Cook really sees an encouraging future for Sulack. The graduated guard scored 18-19 ppg last year and hopes to start for Believe Prep.
