“Iowa State I’ve always been following since I was young and I know they have great success with players from Wisconsin, so that’s always intriguing. And they win, they’ve gone to the tournament six years in a row, they know how to win.”
Haliburton is Iowa State’s second commitment in a week after wing Zion Griffin committed last week. Griffin and Haliburton bonded this summer playing together at a camp.
Haliburton averaged 16 points per game for Oshkosh North and shot 40 percent from the arc. He will fit with Iowa State’s versatile team.
“We talked about sometimes they might go small, because actually they went small sometimes with Deonte Burton playing big, so we just talked about because of my length I can definitely guard probably one and two right now, but in college once I get a little stronger I can definitely guard a three just because of my length and my height,” Haliburton said.
“Offensively he does play a lot of guards and it’s just whoever is closest to the ball gets the rebound and goes and everybody else runs the floor. He sees me playing the two as well.”
Coach Steve Prohm likes the court IQ and presence of Haliburton.
“He kind of talked about he loves just my presence on the floor, he watched me and he said in the first couple minutes he could really tell how hard I played and he liked just my presence on the floor and the way I can space the floor.”
