UMSL Elite Camp (Top Wings)
Missouri Prep Hoops was on hand at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Elite Camp on Wednesday morning. Here is a look at some of the top shooting guards/wings from the camp.
R.J. Wright 6’1″ Webster Groves (’18): The slender shooting guard filled up the basket throughout the camp with his smooth shooting stroke from 3-point range. He was knocking down shots off the catch and also getting in the lane and making short jumpers. He enjoyed a very productive summer.
Jalen Covington-Berry 6’2″ Hazelwood Central (’18): A powerfully-built shooting guard who was a tough cover with his strength and ability to get to the basket. When he wanted to get into the lane, he was not going to be denied. He handles the ball well enough to free himself from defenders and he can really finish through contact. He’s a valuable piece to any small-ball lineup because he can play anywhere on the court.
Trae Meny 6’5″ Battle (’18): A versatile wing player with good size and the ability to shoot the deep ball with consistency. Meny can really stretch your defense with his shooting ability off the catch. He can also handle the ball and has improved his athleticism, which I noticed on the defensive end where he made a couple of nice blocks from behind with his length.
Kobe Smith 6’4″ Ritenour (’18): An athletic wing player with good size and a versatile skill set. Kobe has a strong body in which he uses well when he wants to get to the basket. He can also get it done from the perimeter off the catch or with the dribble. He also showed us some explosiveness in the open court with a couple of slam dunks with both hands.
A.J. Sommer 6’5″ Parkway South (’18): A solid all-around forward who was doing a nice job getting buckets in the first game that I watched him play. He knocked down a couple of perimeter jumpers, but he was also scoring in a variety of ways as he moved well without the ball and picked up some offensive rebounds as well.
