UMSL Elite Camp (Top Point/Combo Guards)
Missouri Prep Hoops was in the house at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Wednesday to watch its Elite Camp. The mid-morning showcase brought together several talented players from both sides of the river in the St. Louis area, plus some kids from outstate Missouri and the Chicago area.
Here is a look at some of the top point guard/combo guards at the UMSL Elite Camp:
Jalen Hodge 6’1″ O’Fallon, IL (’18): A smooth southpaw point guard who was one of the most impressive players at the camp, if not the most impressive. He showcased the entire package of scoring, ball handling, passing and solid defense. He could get buckets off the bounce or knock down smooth jumpers off the dribble. Above all, he did an excellent job of getting the ball to his teammates when they were ready to score. It came as no surprise that he earned an offer from UMSL after the camp.
Brandon Frederick 5’10” Confluence Academy (’18): The young man who people may not have known before camp, but really know about after the camp. He’s more of a shooting guard in a point guard’s body, but he’s a certified bucket-getter with a feathery touch from 3-point range. He has nice handles and has the ability to them to his advantage to create space for his jumpers. He’s also quick and can get to the basket.
Jadis White 6’1″ Chaminade (’18): A very solid pass first point guard with good quickness and the ability to sit down and work on the defensive end. He delivered some very nice passes in transition during the day. On the offensive end, he displayed a couple of good escape moves to get into the lane and knock down short jumpers. He does a good job of keeping the ball moving.
Damien Loyd 5’10” Kirkwood (’19): The little point guard did a nice job of taking advantage of his speed and quickness, especially in the transition game when he looked like a blur at times on the break. He is a pass-first point guard who knows how to get his teammates involved in the offense, but he can also knock down open 3-pointers when he has to.
Gavin Harris 6’2″ Jackson (’18): A very solid point guard who has the size and skill level to excel at both positions in the backcourt. He did a nice job of handling and passing the ball and he is also a very capable 3-point shooter who also doesn’t mind taking the ball to the basket.
