Recruiting Report: Noah Freidel (2019)
Noah Freidel is South Dakota’s top player prospect in the 2019 class. He’s earned three offers and his teams as a sophomore finished best in the state.
Noah finished his sophomore year of high school as a Tea Area Class A State Champion hoisting the championship trophy along with is brother Ethan.
From there Freidel didn’t miss a beat. He moved right into play with the South Dakota Attack helping his team push to championship rounds of tournaments competing against some of the best teams in the Midwest. The Attack grabbed a championship in a St. Cloud event against some of the teams from Minnesota and the Dakotas.
The highlights were many and the results fantastic with a 22-5 record overall. Noah then moved over and played in an event with the Schoolers 17s.
“It is tough to pick only a couple highlights out of the summer but if I had to choose I would say playing up a level with the Schoolers in KC was definitely one,” Noah said of his highlights. I would also have to go with winning the tourney in St. Cloud.
“I got better as a player from playing against high competition every weekend. I also got better by learning to be a leader and always producing in some way.”
Noah averaged 17 points a game with six boards a contest as a state championship sophomore. Now with his brother Ethan playing at the college level, Noah is the Tea Area leader.
“My focus on improvement is definitely my defense.” Freidel said. “I would like to be better on ball and guarding quick guards.”
Tea Area was 21-4 last year and brings back four starters so expectations are definitely high.
“The goal is to win two more state titles,” Noah said. “We have a lot of talent returning and have the opportunity to get it done so we just got to go out and finish what we started.”
Freidel played against some of the best players from Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis, Omaha, Iowa, and everywhere within that area holding his own, and often outplaying top talent. Therefore several college programs at the D1 and D2 level are in contact. Sioux Falls, Augustana, and Dakota Wesleyan have offered to this point.
“I’m hearing from Augustana, the University of Sioux Falls, Northern State, South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, and Wright State,” Noah said.
Freidel grew up watching his brother and the older players from the region compete. He followed in their footsteps as he improved his game.
“My brother and all his friends influenced my game a lot. When I was younger I would play with them and just get beat up. It made me a lot better.”
Noah wants to be the best. And his favorite players? Some of the best of all time.
“My favorite hoopers are Michael Jordan, Reggie Miller, and Larry Bird!”
