Recruiting Report: Lucas Kroft (2019)
Lucas Kroft – 6’5” | G/W | 1Nation 16U/17U UAA | Fort Wayne North Side
Lucas Kroft is one of the most versatile players in the Class of 2019. He can play anywhere from the point guard position to a wing that can guard a power forward. He played this past summer with the 1Nation program out of Michigan at the 16U and 17U level on the Under Armour Association Circuit. Kroft, and his younger brother, also transferred to Fort Wayne North Side from Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian this summer.
Kroft found success on the Under Armour circuit this summer. He scored the ball at a great rate from deep, attacked the basket and finished above the rim, and left his mark on the glass on both ends. He finished out the season averaging 11.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
Lucas has great court vision and is extremely comfortable playing the point guard position. He’s got length, athleticism, and good size which allows him to see the whole floor and make accurate passes with both hands. Kroft is one of the best finishers in the lane with either hand from his position and has the athleticism to climb the ladder and finish with strength above the rim.
“It [summer] was really good. It took me a lot of places and allowed me to play in front of a lot of college coaches.” Lucas’s biggest personal takeaways from this summer are that he wants to continue working on his defense and being more active on the glass.
He is a good on-ball defender because he uses his feet more than he does his hands to turn the offensive player. He is focusing on his first step quickness and lateral movement heading into his junior season.
Coming off a successful summer, Lucas currently holds an offer from Youngstown State University and Holy Cross (MA) is awaiting his standardized test scores before they extend their offer. He is also receiving interest from the United States Air Force Academy, University of Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State University, and the University of Toledo.
Lucas is joining forces with one of the top nationally ranked players in the Class of 2019, Keion Brooks. “First few weeks have been good. I have a really good feeling about this year.” These two, along with other returning players on the Legends roster, will be looking to return to the State Championship game for the second year in arrow and avenge their loss to Ben Davis.
Keep an eye on Lucas Kroft as he looks to use his versatility, impressive skill set, and athleticism to have a breakout junior season at North Side High School. Big things are coming from this prospect.
