Recruiting Report: Garrett Pumphrey (2018)
At the small school level, having one standout skill can really make you a valuable player. Not too often are you going to get one of those defining skills to be shot blocking and in a class in Indiana as shallow as 2018 is, that skill is a big one for a ton of college programs.
For Cambridge City (IN) post Garrett Pumphrey, he has made it a point of emphasis in his skillset to do just that. He’s a dynamic shot blocker and rim protector. He’s very much a raw prospect with a frame that needs to develop but he can deflect shots and help immensely on the defensive end of the floor.
A long list of schools have started to reach out and he’s drawing a wide range of interest because of his size and skill level. Schools including Huntington, Siena Heights, West Virginia State, Ferris State, Marian, Adrian College, Earlham, DePauw, Bethel College, Wabash, Holy Cross (IN), Wittenburg, Manchester, Saint Francis (IN), Rose-Hulman, and Hillsdale.
That wide range is schools in the Midwest is to be expected. Pumphrey was good this spring and summer running with Indiana Legends 2018. He showed spurts of his dominance on the interior and now his play is paying off. Visits could be coming up quickly for the emerging big man who could be looking into Physical Therapy as a potential major in college.
