Recruiting Report: Cam Thomas (2020)
Cam Thomas, a class of 2020 guard at Oscar Smith, is coming off one of the more memorable freshman seasons in state history. Thomas carried the momentum he built during the high school season with him on the EYBL with 16U Boo Williams, and closed out his summer with a Top 20 All Star nod at Hoop Group Future All American.

“I’m an all around player. I can score. I can defend. I can rebound. Get my teammates involved. I can do it all,” said Thomas, who has been playing the game since age 3. “My passing is very underrated. I can see the floor. I can play the point if necessary. It takes away from my scoring, so some coaches don’t like putting me there.”
From the beginning of his freshman season until now, Thomas has grown nearly four inches: from around 6’0 to 6’3. He works as hard off the court as he does on. Thomas carried a 3.7 GPA in his first year of high school. He’s still hungry, and continues to remain humble and work.
“My rebounding and defense are the most improved parts of my game. Everyone tries to blackmail me and say that I don’t play d, but those people haven’t seen me play before,” Thomas explained. “I need to continue to work on everything. I have to work on it all. Keep it polished.”
Thomas, who visited NC State before Peach Jam, has received offers from Old Dominion, Hampton, Maryland Eastern Shore, Creighton, VA Tech, Florida, and most recently Rhode Island.
Thomas, who also visited UVA earlier in the air, has been receiving good feedback from college coaches. He says he’s happy, but he just wants to keep working. What can a college program expect from the talented guard?
“I can be a good teammate. Especially on, and off the court. And scoring. That’s what my game is.”
