Recruiting Report: Alex Grashoff (2018)
Alex Grashoff of Elk Point Jefferson is a tough player to move inside. The production is there and this is a multi-sport standout.
Alex played basketball at the 17u level because he wants his senior year season in the DAK XII to be a memorable one. Everything about his spring and summer play was to prepare for his senior year.
“I will definitely take away the competitive nature of my teammates and try to apply that to my school team and try to make a deep run in the playoffs because this is my last year of high school hoops and I want to go out on top,” Alex said. I want to walk off the court knowing win of loss that I left it all on the court.”
Playing throughout the off-season did more than just improve his game, it also allowed Alex to find people from outside of his area that he can now call “teammates”.
“AAU Basketball has allowed me to meet new people from all over the state of South Dakota and even Iowa and Minnesota.”
Now that he’s played against some of the best players in the Midwest Alex has things he wants to work on before basketball starts in December.
“I’m hoping to improve my jumper,” Alex said. “I already have a good mid-range shot but I want to make that great, and I want to add threes to my arsenal.
“I also want to improve my back to the basket game as well. Being the only post on our team I’m going to have to stay in great condition and be an iron man for our team.”
Elk Point-Jefferson brings a lot of talent back including their top point producers.
“I expect big things this year. We are returning our three leading scorers with Presston Kollbaum, Jared Merkley, and myself.
“We are losing Aaron Koupal who was a monster on the glass and I expect Caleb Hanson and myself to fill that void. We will have an all senior starting five and a strong bench so I expect us to be very good in a difficult conference.”
The goals are big for Alex both personally and team wise.
“My primary goal is to get better and better every day,” Alex said. “I want to be the best in the state, I would like to make it to the Sweet 16 and make it to the State Tournament.
“Personally I just want to know that once when my senior year is over I know that I gave it my all each and every rep, practice, and game, win or lose, first or last. I just want to know that I finished my last year of EPJ Husky basketball as a great competitor and an even better teammate.”
That’s a leader right there everyone. A leader who also measured in at 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds for football this year. Another sport Alex is very good at.
“I would love to play a sport in college weather it is football or basketball. I have had Mount Marty schedule a meeting with me in late September. I also have had Dakota Wesleyan and Northern State express interest in me for football.”
