Recruiting Report 2018: Daryn Alexander

Rockville, MD.   Grassroots Team: MOCO Heat/Team Vito We scouted Daryn at the MD Elite Summer League where he was very impressive. He is an All Montgomery County caliber player and this rating is shared by HS Coaches throughout Montgomery County. Additionally, Daryn is a starting WR & Safety for the Rockets football team, & member of the track & field team competing in the high jump & 100 meters with great success. Daryn is a very versatile CG who says,"I can bring the ball up court versus pressing defenses & run our half court offense, but I am better on the wing. I can score from the 3 point line, on mid range pull ups & finish at the rim thru contact. While I am a triple threat on offense, I can facilitate. Getting my teammates involved & ball movement is a high priority. When I drive to the rim I have good decision making skills on when to make a drop off pass, kick the ball out to the wing or finish at the rim."Daryn converted many big plays for Richard Montgomery this summer & he is a proven clutch player & winner. He plays with a very high basketball IQ & he is very perceptive. With his long wing-span, Daryn covers the passing lanes very well & makes several deflections & steals per game. He is a proven help side defender & he plays with great hustle the entire game. He adds,"I like to do the dirty work & intangibles for RM. I really want to win & I do not take losses very easily. I like to bring energy, hustle & winning attitude the entire game. Additionally, I am a team leader on & off the court leading by example & vocally." This summer Daryn has been working on his  basketball drills daily & focusing on his ball-handling, left hand, footwork & shooting. While he is playing football this summer & fall, Daryn will find time for his basketball reps. In our early assessment of Daryn, we rank him as a D2 player with upside. Daryn says, "I will consider a football offer if it is better than basketball, and this is big year for me." In the classroom Daryn has very solid 3.0 GPA & he will attend college. He says his role models are his older brother's Daniel & Deryck. Daniel will be a sophomore for the Frostburg State College basketball team & he really came on at mid season for the Bobcats. He is a strong candidate to start this year at Frostburg State. Daryn adds,"Tyler Hebron H & Mr. John Freda are very important in my life & are role models & mentors to me. Also, my Coaches at Richard Montgomery are very helpful." Last season Richard Montgomery finished the season @ 20-5 before losing to 4A State finalist Quince Orchard HS in the Regional Finals. Daryn says,"We should be very good this season & if our chemistry gels we will be very hard to beat."We will be covering Daryn & Richard Montgomery this season providing game reports & recruiting reports for the Rockets players. In the preseason, we rank Richard Montgomery in tier #1 for Montgomery County, which consists of the top 4 teams.
