Prospect Spotlight: John Reith (2018)
John Reith – 6’5” | F | OPS 2018 | Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger
John Reith plays his summer ball for OPS 2018 that is coached by former Indiana University basketball player, Matt Roth. Reith also plays his school ball with Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger.
John is known for his size and willingness to do the little things to win games. “My biggest strength is my leadership and being able to bring energy to the whole team. I try to do that with physicality and mental toughness. The little grit things like rebounding, setting hard screens, and taking charges.”
He is Mr. Intangibles and has a good frame on him already. He brings an edge to the defensive end and battles extremely hard on both backboards. He has great hands from his years of playing football and his footwork is one of his biggest improvements here lately.
John is agile and mobile for his size. As an undersized power forward, John has started working away from the basket a little bit more.
He is focusing on improving his game away from the basket on both ends of the floor. “Scoring with my face to the basket and lateral quickness, so that I can better guard the perimeter. He (Lucas Lehrman) and I are both going to take on big roles so I want to make sure we can complement each other on the court.”
Reith will have the opportunities throughout the season to highlight his abilities on the wing. He has strong back to the basket moves and knows how to create space inside. Finishes well with both hands around the basket and is strong enough to finish through the defense.
“I’d love to play at the next level if the right opportunity comes along.” John is a high-academic prospect looking to go into Orthopedic Surgery one day. He has the right approach when it comes to looking at college programs because he knows what he wants in his future.
Great addition to a roster looking for leadership, toughness, and a prospect who will do what it takes to win games. Reith is an under-the-radar player at the moment but has the right skills for a breakout senior season.
