A strong, physical inside-outside wing player, Richardson says he models his game after Lebron James.
“I’m a slashing guard always attacking the rim,” Richardson said. “I can knock down jump shots and create for teammates and myself off the dribble. On the other hand I take pride in my defense. I’m always guarding the best player on the opposite team it’s a personal thing.”
Richardson helped lead Turner to an 11-9 record, one of the better season the Golden Bears have turned in in recent years. Richardson averaged 20 points per game and was named first-team All-Kaw Valley. He broke the single-game 3-point record with eight 3-pointers in a game.
This summer, Richardson has teamed with some of the better players in Missouri and Kansas with MoKan Elite and put together a strong run. Richardson says he has improved as a player throughout the offseason.
“I’ve gotten way better,” he said. “I’m starting to finish more around the rim and knock down more jump shots. AAU is always fun I just wanted to have a good time get better and gain more exposure.”
Richardson says his mom who played college basketball at Xavier has been the biggest influence on his basketball career.
“She’s always there with me every step of the way,” Richardson said. “She always takes care of me as well as help me gain knowledge of the game.”
A fan of Celtics’ guard Isiah Thomas, Richardson tries to take elements from his game and make them his own.
“He’s a great leader and has a lot of heart and fight,” Richardson said. “I study his game and have been able to shield my body towards bigger defenders like he does. I’m not the tallest just like him so I have to be able to finish in many different ways and threw contact.”
