Prospect Spotlight: DeAndre Sorrells (2019)
Grandview 2019 guard DeAndre Sorrells is gearing up for a big junior season a strong spring and summer with MoKan 16U Elite.
A 5’11, 160-pound point guard who can light up the scoreboard from 3-point range, Sorrells brings strong leadership skills as well as the ability to run a team.
He helped the Bulldogs go 24-5 last season and reach the Class 4 quarterfinals where they fell to Bolivar. Sorrell averaged 9.7 points and led the team with 56 3-pointers while shooting 40 percent from behind the arc.
“This past season has been by far the best season I had and my HS team we made it to the quarterfinals,” he said.
Sorrells and the MoKan 16U put together a strong offseason as the team featured several talented performers.
Although he does not currently hold any offers, Sorrells has drawn interest from several NCAA Division I programs, including South Dakota, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, UMKC and Denver.
“My early start of this AAU season was good we went on a winning streak and I was expecting to get more college offers and interests and I did,” Sorrells said.
Sorrells says his older brother has had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“We are constantly in the gym and he has helped me develop my game in numerous ways,” he said.
Sorrells says he enjoys watching the Warriors’ Steph Curry and has tried to take various elements of his game and make them his own.
“I’m a shooter just like him and I watch how he creates his own shot, gets his teammates open and runs the offense and also how he leads,” Sorrells said.
