Prospect Spotlight: Carlos Paez (2018)
The summer of 2017 has been a fruitful one for Carlos Paez (2018).
The MoKan Select 17U standout point guard put up an impressive 31 points and 6 assists at the Nike Peach Jam Invitational at South Beach followed by a recent 20 point 5 assist game against Peach Jam Champion, Oakland Soldiers.
“His feel for the game and fiery competitiveness gave our team a huge edge this summer” said MoKan Select head coach Achoki Moikobu.
Carlos said he prides himself on his “ability to be a playmaker and a leader” and went onto say that his “competitiveness gave him an edge during many tournaments this AAU season.”
While Paez’s recent play has surprised some, it comes to no surprise to those closest to him. He was the only Venezuelan invited to the 2017 Basketball without Borders camp this year in the Bahamas.
Paez described the experience as “amazing.” He was named to the All-Star team and won the 3-point contest.
Paez is entering his senior season at Sunrise Christian University in Wichita, KS with the help of ex-NBA player Greivis Vasquez.
The Greivis Vasquez foundation helped him find the right school he needed to ensure his academic career flourished and a basketball program that could give him national exposure.
Paez plays behind a starting backcourt at Sunrise Christian that currently holds mid-major Division I offers.
“Being able to battle with those guys everyday helps me improve and motivates me to work even harder.”
Paez is gathering interest from NAIA, Division II, and low Division I schools with one confirmed Division II offer.
