KC JULY STOCK RISERS: Point Guards (2018)
Prep Hoops Missouri takes a look at some KC area point guards who raised their stock during the July evaluation period.
STOCK RISERS: KC Point Guards (2018)
Diego Bernard, 6’0, PG, 2018, Lafayette (Mo.) KC Pacers
One of the big risers in KC-area basketball over the spring and July evaluation periods, Bernard combines elite speed, quickness with good leaping ability. He brings leadership and toughness to the court and is a dynamic all-around player. Bernard has picked up numerous Division II offers over the past few months and chose to be a part of NCAA Division II National Champion Northwest Missouri State.
Damien Daniels, 5’8, PG, 2018, Hogan Prep (Mo.) KC Run GMC
A diminutive point guard who can get to the basket and shoot from the outside, Daniels displays terrific leadership qualities and brings poise and passion to the court. He picked up offers from Missouri Western and Washburn as well as a Division I offer from Abilene Christian.
Javaute Hawkins, 5’9, PG, 2018, Lee’s Summit North (Mo.) Team Rush
Part of the 6-foot and under class of 2018 point guards in Kansas City, Hawkins is a small but tough point guard that handles the ball well, gets into the paint and makes plays. He attacks the basket off the bounce and despite his size can score at all three levels. He has largely flown under the radar at Lee’s Summit North but we look for him to have a breakout senior season.
Jalen Lewis, 5’10, PG, 2018, Liberty (Mo.) Team Rush
Lewis picked up a couple of offers after a standout July, earning his first Division I offer from SEMO and added a Division II offer from Washburn. He combines elite speed and quickness with a pure shooting stroke and an especially quick shooting trigger. Can create his own shot off the bounce and shoot from NBA 3-point range.
Xavier Rhodes, 6’1, PG/SG, 2018, Rockhurst (Mo.) Oklahoma PWP
A long, rangy guard, Rhodes has a wiry frame and combines a quick first step with the ability to get into the lane and finish in traffic. Rhodes brings good leadership to the court and has the ability to make tough plays in the lane look easy. He is an improving perimeter shooter who has raised his stock this offseason.
