Jayhawk Summer Finale Recap (Class of 2020 Point Guards/Combo Guards)
Here is a look at some of the top Missouri Class of 2020 point guard/combo guards from last weekend’s Jayhawk Summer Finale in Overland Park, KS.
Dontae Taylor 6’0″ MBA Flight: An athletic point guard who led his team to the Final Four of the 15U tournament. Taylor showcased the ability to get into the lane whenever he wanted to and he finished with great regularity. He’s quick, explosive and can also shoot the perimeter jumper well. Dontae is also a very unselfish player who can make his teammates better.
Marcus Grant 6’1″ MO Team Carroll: A very explosive point guard who can handle the ball well and attack the basket very effectively. I was very impressed with him during their bracket game against Team Thad, where he did a great job of taking on Thad’s heavy pressure defense with his athleticism and decision making. He has a big upside.
Phillip Russell 5’8″ Brad Beal Elite: A quick point guard who played a big role in BBE winning the 15U championship. He is very good in transition as he was able to use his speed. He has a very good float game, which he used to get key buckets down the stretch of games. He nailed down the championship game with three free throws in the closing seconds.
Jace Lance 5’11” MO Team Carroll: Talented young point guard who has good offensive ability and leadership skills to go along with it. He’s very good with the ball with his ability to handle and facilitate, but he is also an offensive weapon with his shooting range that extends well past the 3-point line.
Tayven Glasgow 6’0″ KC Elite 16U: A thick-bodied point guard who played up a year during the weekend. Tayven is physically strong with a strong set of fundamentals. He is a pass-first point guard who plays at his own pace and still get to his spots. He can also shoot the basketball, as he made four 3-pointers in a game.
Tyrus Reddin 5’8″ SEMO Bulls: A speedy young point guard who plays a little bigger than his actual size because he is an explosive leaper. Has the ability to get in the lane and score inside with the bigs and hit a pull up jumper with excellent elevation. He’s very good in transition.
Jeremiah Johnson 6’0″ STL Kings: A long and lean point guard who has a good set of offensive skills. He’s quick and he did a nice job of changing directions to keep defenders off balance. I like how he runs the pick and roll. Very smooth. He is also a good shooter from 3-point range.
Tahj Patterson 5’10” Brad Beal Elite: A capable point guard who did a solid job all weekend for the 15U championship team. He is a solid ball handler who can also shoot the basketball. In a couple of BBE’s victories, he came up with some big buckets in key moments of the game. He’s not afraid of the moment.
Anton Brookshire 5’10” Yanders Law: A very talented Class of 2021 point guard who was playing up at the 15U level. Anton is a smooth operator with the ball with excellent speed and quickness. He did a nice job of handling pressure defense and dropping dimes to open teammates. He has a nice future ahead of him.
