Jayhawk Summer Finale Recap (Class of 2018 Forwards)
In the final installment of positional breakdowns from the Jayhawk Summer Finale, here is a look at the top Class of 2018 forwards and posts from Missouri.
Christian Bishop 6’7″ Team Rush: The long and lanky forward performed like one of the best prospects in the state with his length and ability to play virtually every position on the floor at both ends. He is a tough match up because of his vast array of perimeter skills, especially his ball handling and passing. He is also an impressive finisher at the rim with his variety of dunks. Bishop has already committed to Creighton.
Tyreese Davis 6’6″ KC Run GMC: The energetic forward helped lead his team to the 17U championship high motor and ability to make plays on both ends. Had a most impressive sequence in a game against Team Rush when he raced to block a would-be layup attempt and finished the play by running 94 feet to complete an alley-oop. He is tough around the basket and a scorer and rebounder and is very effective on the drive.
Yor Anei 6’10” Team Rush: The tall southpaw was a formidable presence in the lane throughout the weekend as a scorer and rim protector. In several games, he would establish himself early on the offensive end with good post moves and early buckets to set the tone for his team. On the defensive end, he was quite a force with his activity and shot blocking. He made it very hard to score in the paint against Team Rush. He really took his game to another level against another top big man.
Clay Gayman 6’5″ KC Pacers: An injured ankle kept the talented forward out of bracket play, but before that, he was a double-double machine. His consistent productivity has been his calling card throughout the summer. You can almost put in close to 20 points and 10 rebounds in the book before every game. He made several perimeter jumpers, scored in the paint and threw down his usual number of dunks before leaving the lineup.
Marty Jackson 6’5″ NdaGym: An excellent find during the grassroots season, Jackson closed out the summer with a big tournament, including a game-high 24 points in his final game against KC Magic in bracket play. He proved to be a versatile scoring threat who can get buckets in the paint on post moves and offensive rebounds, yet he could take opposing bigs outside to knock down jumpers and score on drives.
Wesley McCullough 6’7″ KC Magic: The talented Stretch 4 finished up a strong month of July with another excellent tournament at the Jayhawk. He once again showcase his tremendous shooting from 3-point range as he consistently knocked down jumpers from long distance. I was also impressed with his ability to get to the basket and scored off the dribble.
Leon Perry 6’7″ MO Team Carroll: The tough combo forward played with an excellent motor and got a lot done in three games. He scored around the basket on a variety of moves, offensive rebounds and aggressive drives from the wing. When his energy level is high, he is very difficult to handle around the basket. He can also knock down a 15 footer.
Sevon Witt 6’6″ Team Rush: A strong physical combo forward with a big body and a versatile skill set. When he gets going to the basket with a full head of steam, not many people are going to get in his way. Not only is he strong on the drive, but he has the ability to get buckets in the paint as well.
Caleb Jones 6’6″ KC Elite: A long and lean post player who gets a lot of business done around the basket on the offensive end. He has an excellent touch in the low post and he displayed it with jump hooks and nice turnaround jumpers in the lane. He could also step out and score it from 12 to 15 feet.
