Class of 2018 Posts
Here is a look at the top Class of 2018 post players in the state of Missouri:
Carte’are Gordon 6’8″ Webster Groves: The Saint Louis U. commit was injured for a good part of the summer, but returned to have a solid Nike Peach Jam with Team Penny. When healthy, he is a dominant force in the paint with his combination of size, physicality, footwork and skill level. He will team with five-star guard Courtney Ramey at Webster Groves to go for a repeat Class 5 state championship in 2018.
Yor Anei 6’10” Lee’s Summit West: The big southpaw was an imposing force on the defensive end for Team Rush during the summer. He is an active rebounder and shot blocker in the paint. He has solid moves around the basket and the ability to step out and knock down a jumper when left open.
Yahuza Rasas 6’6″ St. Mary’s: One of the most active post players in the class, Yahuza has been a big producer at St. Mary’s since his freshman year. He has good athletic ability and a desire to rebound and block shots. His offensive game has evolved over the years as well to the point where he is sniffing around the perimeter.
Jamarr Williams 6’6″ Northwest Academy: There is not a better offensive rebounder in the state. Nobody. He gets excellent position, but he has a unbridled passion to go after missed shots, even if it means getting knocked to the floor. Williams was huge in the state tournament last year in leading Northwest to the Class 3 state title.
Cameron Hester 6’7″ Jackson: An excellent meat and potatoes performer in the low post who doesn’t stray away from what he does well. He is strong, physical and loves the bump and grind game in the paint. He is strong finisher around the basket with both hands.
Mason Fair 6’5″ Raytown: A solid low post threat at 250 pounds who uses his size to great advantage around the basket. He gets great low post position and finishes well with a nice left handed shooting touch. He is also a good prospect on the football field.
Elijah Farr 6’7″ Lee’s Summit North: An excellent two-sport athlete who excels on the football field as a lineman prospect. He is big and physical around the basket, but he can add a little bit of finesse to his game as well.
Caleb Strauss 6’7″ Warrenton: A SEMO football commit, Strauss is a big southpaw who has averaged a double-double throughout his high school career. He is solid around the basket, but he enjoys stepping out and knocking down jumpers from the high post.
Trae Robinson 6’8″ Saxony Lutheran: This young man was enjoying a strong summer with the Rainmakers Elite before he collapsed on the court during a late July tournament in KC. His basketball career is on hold as of now as he is on the mend. The progress of this 290-pound post player was excellent with his scoring and passing.
Nathan Bax 6’6″ Helias: An Illinois State football commit, Bax is a strong, physical performer around the basket for a Helias team that advanced to the Class 4 sectionals. He is a solid player in the post who can also score on the drive from the high post and make a 15 footer.
Mike Akinwumi 6’7″ Parkway West: A much improved big who enjoyed a very productive summer with the St. Louis Shooting Stars. He was comfortable as a rebounder and shot blocker, but he displayed an improved offensive game as a scorer and offensive rebounder.
