UA Select Super 16 Recap (Class of 2020 Guards/Wings)
Here is look at some of the top Class of 2020 guards and wings from last weekend’s UA Select Super 16 in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Jaylen Boyd 5’10” St. Louis Warriors Blue: A talented southpaw with good handles and a lot of shifty moves, which he put to good use throughout the tournament. Boyd did a nice job of changing speeds to get to the basket and he could compliment it with a good stop and pop mid-range jumper. He was also very good at delivering big buckets at clutch moments when his team needed it. He worked hard on the defensive end as well.
Tyrelle Hunt 6’4″ All In: A tough, physical wing player from Chicago (IL) Curie who was tough to deal with because of his strength and overall skill set. Not only was he an excellent perimeter shooter, but he had a knack of hitting big shots at the right time to change the momentum. He was strong on the drive with the ability to get buckets and draw fouls and get three-point plays.
Casey Jones 5’6″ Arsenal Hoops: A diminutive point guard who displayed a very good floor game in the two times that I watched him. He was quite the ball hawk on defense as he had several steals, strips and deflections in a game against a good All In team from Chicago. He was good with the dribble penetration and made the right read once he got in the lane with several good passes. His shot selection was sensible as he finished layups and made some open jumpers. Very strong physically.
Nate Garrett 6’2″ St. Louis Warriors Blue: The young wing player had an impressive weekend on both ends of the floor. His size and length helped him on the defensive end as he did an excellent job of getting into passing lanes and blocking shots against opposing players on the drive. Offensively, he was at his best when getting to the basket as he scored on a number of twisting drives with a good finishing rate.
Colby Brents 5’9″ Team Tae: A young man from Glasgow, KY who really lit it up in a couple of games that I witnessed. He was small, but he was a dynamic offensive threat from the perimeter, especially in the open court. He had the formidable combination of quickness, penetrating ability plus 3-point shooting prowess.
