Prospect Watch: Brandon Frederick (2018)
Class of 2018 guard Brandon Frederick of Confluence Academy is a small guard who is capable of putting up big numbers at any time.
The 5’10” Frederick is a scoring point guard who can drop dimes and get buckets; often at the same time. His perimeter shooting serves as an excellent compliment to 6’6″ teammate Leon Perry, who was one of the top scorers in the St. Louis metro area last season.
Frederick helped Confluence enjoy a breakthrough season as it finished the year with a 15-11 record and appeared in a district championship game for the first time in the school’s history. CFA’s season ended with a loss to a powerful St. Mary’s team in the district finals.
“It was exciting to get to the district finals for the first time,” Frederick said. “It was hard, but it was a lot of fun.”
As a junior, Frederick averaged 17 points a game while shooting 42 percent from 3-point range. He also averaged 3.4 assists and 3.5 steals. He also erupted for some big scoring nights, which included 29 points against McCluer South-Berkeley, 29 points against Riverview Gardens and 25 points in a late-season victory over a good Soldan team.
“I have really worked hard on my shooting,” Frederick said. “I go to the gym every day and shoot 3-pointers. I try to make 100 3s a day. I also play a lot of pick-up ball and that has helped me get better. I have quickness, I can get to the rim and I can also draw fouls.”
The Inside-Outside combination of Perry and Frederick will be back as seniors in 2018 to lead a talented Confluence team that hopes to improve on last year’s success. They had a big month of June while playing in a number of team camps around the Midwest.
“Our goals is to get to state and win it,” Frederick said. “We want to win and hopefully everyone can get some college offers.”
