Mullen’s High Profile Recap (Class of 2020 Standouts)
Here is a look at some of the top Missouri Class of 2020 standouts from last weekend’s Mullen’s High Profile Tournament in Bel Aire, KS.
Ethan Kilgore 6’6″ KC Run GMC: A versatile combo forward who was comfortable working in the low post or on the perimeter, where he could shoot the 3-pointer and pass the ball. He has good court vision and his size enables him to see over the defense. He has a nice shooting touch around the basket and he can score with both hands. He also displayed a little bounce when I watched him run the court and throw down an impressive slam dunk off the offensive rebound.
Darion Smith 6’3″ Missouri Impact 17U: A physical young forward who more than held his own while playing up two years. Smith is strong, he plays with a lot of force and doesn’t back down from anybody. He is a tough rebounder and he was one of the top shot blockers during the weekend. He blocked eight in one game that I watched. He can get his shot from 10 to 12 feet as he shoots at the peak of his jump. He has a big upside.
Jace Lance 5’11” MO Team Carroll: An excellent point guard who checks the boxes as a facilitator, shooter, leader and floor general. You can tell he’s the leader because whenever anything breaks down offensively, everyone looks to get the ball to Lance and he restores order. He did a nice job of finding open teammates in the post or beyond the 3-point line. He is an excellent 3-point shooter who can also find gaps in the defense for drives to the basket. Good poise and savvy.
Dalton Gayman 6’5″ KC Pacers Blue 16U: A tough, young power forward who played up with the 16U team during the weekend. He enjoys the physical side of the game as he looks for the contact whenever possible. He is a tireless worker who fights for position in the low post and for rebounds. He is a good finisher around the basket and being a lefty gives him a good advantage. He is a solid ball handler who will not make a lot of mistakes with the ball.
Tanner Thouvenot 6’8″ MO Team Carroll: A big, strong post player who did a good job of using his size and strength around the basket. He can establish him position and hold it in the post very well while muscling his way inside for offensive rebounds. He did a good job of finishing around the rim in heavy traffic.
Jayl0n McDaniel 6’6″ KC Run GMC (2021): A long and lanky ninth-grader who was playing up a year and showed a lot of potential. He is a good young athlete who was very active around the basket as a scorer and rebounder. It was my first time watching him play and he looks like a promising young player who will be one to watch in the future.
