Jericole Hellems blows up at the Peach Jam
The name Jericole Hellems has been on the tip of the tounge of every high school basketball observer nationwide after his performance in this week’s Nike EYBL Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C.
The 6’7″ 2018 forward from Chaminade College Prep has been brilliant in leading the Brad Beal Elite 17U to the Final Four of this weekend’s Peach Jam. Hellems’ excellence has been rewarded by nearly a dozen new collegiate offers in a 24-hour period in what has to be one of great meteoric rises in recent memory.
Since putting his personal stamp on the Peach Jam, Hellems has received offers from Missouri, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Kansas State, UMass, VCU, George Washington, Arkansas, Illinois, Ole Miss and Wichita State, Wake Forest with more surely to come.
“I’m just more appreciative than excited,” Hellems said. “I’m just thanking the good Lord and my parents every time I get one.”
Through seven games, Hellems averaged 22.7 points and 6.8 rebounds a game in leading BBE to a 6-1 record. He had 29 points and nine rebounds in a victory over the Oakland Soldiers to start the week. He added a 30-point, eight-rebound performance against Expressions Elite, followed by a high game of 34 points against the CIA Bounce. In the quarterfinals against Howard Pulley (MN), Hellems hit a dagger 3-pointer in the final minute to seal a BBE 65-58 victory to send them to the Final Four.
“My key to success this weekend would have to be my teammates putting me in good positions to score,” he said. “And my coaches for trusting me to shoot the ball.”
