GPA’ 17: the Friday 16u standouts
Prep Hoops observed the 16U quarters today and here are some of the standouts, in two sentences. It’s a 16u Take Two if you will.
Jacob Beeninga (Wayzata/Comets Stumpf). Jacob scored 25 to move his team into the semi-finals including five threes made. He was offered on Thursday by Minnesota State-Moorhead and it makes total sense as he is the skilled, explosive shooting, aggressive guard type they love.
Cade Bleeker (Sioux City, IA/SD Attack). The game with WOTN changed when Cade knocked out a late half three and then made a halftime buzzer beater three. A 6-foot-3 shooter that scored three times but two of them were game changers.
Drew Cole (Brookings/SD Attack). Stands about 6-foot-6 and moves well. Gained some quality experience this year and when this young man adds some core strength he will become a nice prospect.
Noah Freidel (Tea Area/SD Attack). He is the best in show because his skills are far advanced and his knowledge of the game is so advanced. This is a young player that understands how to create space with his dribble, with his screens, and with the pass and then knows how to take advantage of that space with cuts, dribble separation, and timing on his jumpers. Noah gets a the third sentence because his 27-foot three was extra deep.
Mitchell Goodbary (SF Christian/SD Attack). Well build frontcourt player that was patient around the basket, used his size to displace opponents, and then vaulted for his finish. Had 11 against WOTN.
Tyler Kemp (New Prague/WOTN Swed). Tyler simply does a lot of intriguing things. Today his open flor dunk was the most memorable play but he also knocked out a three and handles over the top of smaller guards with issues.
Baden Noenning (Mayer Lutheran/Comets Stumpf). Baden has the physical tools to be a prospect that is grabbing consistent interest by this time next season. He runs as well as any guard on the floor and is quicker off his feet than most.
Tate Staloch (Lakeville North/WOTN Swed). The 6-foot-6 forward showed why he can play some three with two early threes on the wing and then showed why he will play a lot four by banging his way to the rest of his 18 points. Well built for the frontcourt but a soft touch too.
Derek Techam (Delano/Comets Stumpf). I don’t need more than a single sentence to tell you that once Derek catches fire the nets do a dance after the ball skates through the net. Did it again.
Jake Weber (Pine Island/Select Koch). Enjoyed watching the skills of his three-point shooting making three and then aggressively attacking for the rest of his 25. Love his demeanor of competing hard every play and not changing his expression.
Ryan Wyganowski (New London-Spicer/Select Koch). Speedy and touch little point guard that hit five threes and kept Select in the game in the quarters. Touch, compact, keeps dribble deep and moves quickly into space.
Travis Yohnke (Parkers Priarie/Comets Stumpf). Travis simply turned his shoulders in either way and cleared the defense for his personal and balanced scoring attacks. Had 15 vs Select in the quarter win.
