AAU Recap: Most Enjoyable 2019 Teams
With the end of the AAU season, we want to take a look back at our most impressive and fun teams from each age group. These aren’t the best teams or a ranking but our favorites from the season. Here are our most impressive 2019 teams we watched.
Indiana Elite 2019 – Just from a pure talent standpoint, this IE team was loaded and so much fun to watch. They had a ton of talent and played hard. The depth of their wings with guys like Cobie Barnes and Kyle Rode to their standout point guard in Jeremiah Francis, they had guys at each spot on the floor that would dominate. They were one of the best teams in the country and who doesn’t want to watch one of those.
Indiana Elite Metro 2019 – This IE team was just so fun. They shot the ball a ton and made a ton of them. Behind Spencer Piercefield, Justin Hensley, and Ben Nichoson this team made a ton of triples each game. Sometimes as many as 17 and that would allow them to run some teams out of the gym. Not to mention, they were physical in the post and the combo of Nate Childress and Ross Welch was so tough to score against.
Indiana Faith 2019 – This Indiana Faith team wasn’t a team many were going to watch this year but next season, you might want to pay attention. They have size, skill, and speed to be pretty good. Ryan Segall, Travis Sturm, and Rylan Detling are post players that all bring different things to the table. Then you have guys like Tyreese Nibbs, Connor Jones, and Nehemiah Jones that took steps forward and became much more impactful than we saw previously. Fun group that played the game well.
Indy Heat 2019 – The Indy Heat 2019 team was among the best younger groups this program has had in some time and they were still up and down at times. However, when they were on they were among the best teams in the Midwest for that age. Isaiah Thompson, Ethan Brittain-Watts, and Brandon Newman were a three-headed monster in the backcourt that just gave teams nightmares. They also had so much elite size. Noah Applegate, Hayden Smithey, and Javin Etzler were all bigger than you would have normally on the wing and then they had John-Michael Mulloy at 6’10. Great team.
Team Teague 2019 – This Teague team proved a lot of people right this year. Don’t think many thought they would be this good but they competed in July and were one of the best 2019 teams for Adidas in the country. Trayce Jackson-Davis took his game to a new level and really started to become a national prospect. Dawand Jones continues to show he’s a basketball player and their bevy of guards and wings all were impressive in their own right. Deep talent and they all showed up at one time or another.
