University of Saint Francis Shootout 2018 and 2019 Standouts
Jeremy Davison – 6’1” | G | Leo High School | 2018
Jeremy has shown improvement in his game off the dribble in the past year. He has always been a consistent, lethal shooter from deep off the catch but he has improved his shot off the dribble and mid-range pull up game. Davison finished better around the basket than he has in the past and showed creativity finishing with both hands. His defense has gotten better with more length and a higher basketball IQ. Davison will be the leader of this year’s Leo team and should be putting up big numbers on a nightly basis. After a strong junior campaign, look for Davison to build on his game with his increased confidence and strength.

River West – 6’2” | SG | Whitko High School | 2018
River West is coming off a strong junior campaign where he averaged 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. With Walpole graduating, West will not be the first option for their offense. In the Shootout on Thursday, River was responsible for most of the offense that Whitko had. His usage rate was the highest that we saw for the day and he continued to make plays down the stretch even when it was obvious that he was wearing down. His jump shot is better than last season and he has more confidence creating off the bounce. West will be a name that gets mentioned often when it comes to Whitko basketball this season and should be someone to keep on the radar.

Johnny Carroll – 5’11” | PG | Adams Central | 2018
Johnny Carroll is looking to pick up this year where he left off last season. Carroll is also a high use player and has been for the past few years with Adams Central. Johnny is creative with his dribble and will be the offensive starter for this team moving forward. His jump shot is looking more natural and his game off the bounce has shown improvement. As he continues to work on creative finishes in the lane, his shooting percentage should continue to rise as he shoots at a high rate from deep. Johnny also looked to get more people involved on the offensive end at the shootout and will need to continue to do so to take some of the pressure off him.

Craig Young – 6’6” | PF | Fort Wayne Wayne | 2019
Craig Young is becoming a well-known name in Fort Wayne as the three-sport standout is starting to put together a strong high school career. Young averaged 18.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game last season for the Generals as a sophomore. Although he did not play this weekend in the USF Shootout (injury from State Track Meet), he will be one of the leaders for Wayne this season. He, alongside fellow junior Demarea Dial, will lead Wayne in every stat category this year. Young’s explosive athleticism has taken him to the next level and he has started to realize his potential for dominating the glass and paint during games.

Hayden Smithey – 6’5” | G/F | Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger | 2019
Hayden Smithey has been a part of the Varsity roster both his freshman and sophomore year earning a starting spot at the start of his sophomore season and not looking back. Smithey has improved on the offensive side of the floor with his ball handling and aggressiveness getting to the basket. His athleticism was unmatched around the basket on Thursday at Saint Francis and his finishing ability with both hands was on full display. Hayden’s jump shot has shown improvement as he is making shots at a higher rate and also knocking down the shots that he needs to in the flow of the game. With his size and versatility, Smithey will be a matchup problem this upcoming season with the Saints as he looks to continue building on his past success. Keep an eye on Hayden Smithey.
