University of Central Missouri Team Camp (Class of 2018 Guards/Wings)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2018 guards and wings from the University of Central Missouri Team Camp in Warrensburg, MO:
Ronnie Bell 6’2″ Park Hill: The best overall player in the team camp, Bell showed his dynamic athleticism and skill set throughout the two days that I watched him. He was knocking down 3-pointers on a consistent basis as he displayed excellent form and elevation on the jumper. He broke loose for several nice dunks in transition and he attacked the basket and finished well at the rim. He has been playing well during the grassroots season this spring and that excellent play has continued.
R.J. Lawrence 5’11” Blue Springs: One of the most talented offensive players in the camp, Lawrence really flourished in the Wildcats’ up-tempo offense. He was able to get out in the open court and score on transition layups and transition jumpers. He displayed excellent 3-point range, but can also slither to the basket and score at the rim with either hand. R.J. was very good in his team’s run-and-jump defense where he was able to sneak up on a ball handler and make a bunch of steals.
Dylan Pheifer 6’3″ Oak Grove: It was first time watching this young man in action and was very impressed with his overall skill set and feel for the game. He can really score as he had a 41-point outing during the season. He has excellent 3-point range and he has the ability to score off the dribble. Dylan can also pass the ball as he displayed good court vision and dropped several nice dimes to open teammates. He plays hard and with a lot of confidence with the ball in his hands.
Caleb Peck 6’0″ Clever: One of the top perimeter shooters at the camp, Peck displayed a confident stroke and one of the quickest releases that I’ve seen from long distance. He moves without the ball well and comes off screens ready to shoot the ball. His footwork is good and he does his work before he catches the ball. He also has a nice quick escape dribble move when defenders close out on him.
Tyrell Rock 5’7″ Ruskin: The diminutive guard was one of the quickest and most athletic players at the camp. He displayed his explosive leaping ability on one play when he ran down and blocked a shot of a 6’5″ kid at the top of the rim. It was pretty spectacular. He was also a very impressive on-ball defender who would pick up his man and hound him for the entire 94 feet without any let up. His speed and quickness enables him to penetrate and get in the lane on a regular basis.
Jaxon Althaus 6’3″ Oak Grove: A nice wing player with good size and length who is very offensive-minded. He is a very resourceful scorer who will find ways to get buckets. He has excellent 3-point range off the catch and off the dribble. He can also score off the dribble and play through contact to get himself to the free throw line. He also has the ability to post up and score inside against smaller guards.
Mason Kerkweg 6’3″ Eugene: An excellent 3-point shooter on a team full of very good marksmen, Mason has good size on the wing. He is a good passer who moves the ball well while doing a good job of moving without the basketball to get to the open spots to knock down his 3-pointers.
