University of Central Missouri Team Camp (Class of 2018 Forwards)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2018 forwards from the University of Central Missouri Team Camp in Warrensburg, MO.
Gaven Pinkley 6’8″ Hillsboro: The versatile Pinkley was the top frontcourt player at the camp. His versatility was even more on display as he spent much of the camp playing the point forward role. He looked quite comfortable as he handled the ball and facilitated the offense. It adds a new element to his game, which already includes scoring and rebounding in the post and perimeter shooting. He has the ability to dominate games, but he still does it in an unselfish manner.
Cecil Lee 6’6″ Park Hill: The long, athletic combo forward was easily the best shot blocker at the camp. His combines his athletic ability and excellent length with good timing to be a very effective rim protector. On offense, he is more comfortable facing the basket as a Stretch 4 where he can knock down 3-pointers off the pick and pop.
Mitchell Baack 6’7″ Park Hill: A very solid post player with a good meat and potatoes game around the basket. There’s nothing fancy about his game, but he is very effective. He spreads out well in the post to get good position and he can score with the left hand over his right shoulder. He was also a very good operator in the high post with his ability to pass and knock down a 15 footer off the catch.
Jak Kitchens 6’6″ New Bloomfield: A small-school post player who put up some huge numbers during his junior year, Kitchens took advantage of his opportunity to compete against players from bigger schools. He is a versatile post player with the ability to get buckets and grab rebounds. He has the ability to score in the post and step out and make jumpers, plus he is an excellent passer out of the double teams, which makes his teammates better.
Zach Bond 6’7″ Eugene: An improving post player who plays with plenty of bounce and intensity. He plays on a team full of good 3-point shooters, but they make sure he gets his touches in the paint to achieve offensive balance. He has always been very athletic, but he has developed some good offensive skills around the basket and he will dunk on you. I like his motor, especially on the boards.
Michael Akinwumi 6’7″ Parkway West: Another improving post player who seems ready for a bigger role for the Longhorns in ’18, especially with the graduating of Division I recruit Wyatt Yess. Big Mike has always had a strong presence inside as a rebounder and shot blocker, but he has made some big strides on the offensive end. He was getting buckets around the basket on good post up moves and offensive rebounds. His mobility was also good on both ends of the floor.
