SIUE Team Camp Recap (Team Updates)
Several teams from the Missouri side of the river ventured over to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville to participate in its team camp over the weekend. Here is a look at some of the teams:
Duchesne: The Pioneers looked strong with its senior nucleus that has been together for the past three years. 6’6″ 2018 forward Adam Moore is a Stretch 4 who can knock down 3-pointers, but he has also improved the rest of his game. He also threw down a couple of dunks. 6’4″ 2018 wing Mitchell Fairless is a athletic wing who can knock down 3-pointers. Burly 6’5″ 2018 Luke Lowenstein is a physical post player who is very effective around the basket while 6’2″ 2018 guard Cooper Tune is a solid performer who can handle the ball, pass and make jumpers.
St. Mary’s: The Dragons were busy this weekend as they started at the Lindenwood Team Camp on Friday, then came over to SIUE for the rest of the weekend. 6’6″ 2018 Yahuza Rasas was very impressive with his motor and athleticism. 6’4″ 2018 guard Miles Jones is a physical wing with a good skill set while 5’11” 2019 point guard Yuri Collins dropped several dimes and shot the ball well.
CBC: The Cadets featured a couple of promising young 2020s in 6’3″ guard Caleb Love and 6’11” center Davion Bradford. Love is a bucket-getter who can handle either guard position. He also displayed some athleticism with a highlight reel dunk against Edwardsville. Bradford is developing at a gradual pace and should end up as one of the state’s top prospects by the time he is a senior. 6’4″ 2019 forward Ari Jackson is a solid perimeter player who can shoot the ball. 6’6″ 2019 forward Josh Wallace is a hard worker with a big motor.
Cardinal Ritter: The Lions are a quick unit with a lot of good guard play. 5’10” 2019 point guard Malek Davis displayed his court savvy with smooth handles and nice perimeter jumper. Fellow 5’11” 2019 guard Ryan Torrey has offensive skills, including a fine stroke from 3-point range. 6’5″ 2018 forward Breon Mosby is a good rebounder who has improved his offensive skills in the low post.
SLUH: The Junior Billikens had several new faces after graduating seven good seniors from their Metro Catholic Conference championship team. Two familiar faces back are 6’6″ 2018 forward Matt Leritz, who is a capable Stretch 4 who can score in the post and knock down 3-pointers. 5’10” 2018 point guard Mike Sanders is an excellent 3-point shooter and a solid ball handler.
MICDS: The Rams got a solid weekend from 6’2″ 2018 point guard Austin Thompson, who was one of the on-ball defenders in the camp. He attacked the basket hard and knocked down 3-pointers on Sunday’s final day. 6’3″ 2020 Darion Smith is a beast-like forward who threw down several dunks and rebounded aggressively. He is tough with a nice body. 6’4″ 2018 guard Julian Cheaney is a 3-point specialist with a lot of length.
