Recruiting Report: Malik Kennedy (2018)
Malik Kennedy, a class of 2018 guard at National Christian Academy, is in line for a productive senior season after a standout junior campaign. The Toronto, Ontario native is having a good summer, and is poised to build off the momentum he’s gained.
“I’m a very athletic combo guard, tight handle and clean jump shot. I communicate on defense and know how to find the open man on the floor,” Kennedy explained. “The communication, energy and leadership I bring is something people don’t really notice about my game.”
Kennedy saw his production increase significantly down the stretch for NCA. He pumped in 33 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in a win over Riverdale Baptist, and averaged 24 PPG in his last four. Kennedy has worked hard to develop his weaknesses in anticipation of a bigger role moving forward.
“Definitely my weak hand and court composure. Changing speeds and working on limiting the dribbles it takes to get to the rim,” said Kennedy about the things he’s worked on recently. “I need to get my jump shot to the highest level. Constant reps and focus on form.”
Kennedy has a 3.0 GPA. Green Bay, Northern Arizona, Virginia, Temple, Jacksonville, UMass, St.Bonaventure and Georgetown are some of the schools reportedly expressing interest in Kennedy. What can he bring to a college program?
“A player with a high level scoring ability, knows how to read the floor. Communicates well on defense and is a quick learner.”
NCA graduated four of last season’s top five scorers, and Kennedy is a strong candidate to pick up the slack. Expect some big games, and an uptick in his recruitment.
