Recruiting Report: Kobe Julien (2018)
One of the best collections of talent in a single class over the past few years has to be the three headed monster that Madison Prep has for the 2018 class. They have three guys that are all easily capable of going for 30 on any given night. However, one of the things that makes them so special is 6’5 Kobe Julien’s ability to be a Swiss Army Knife for the team, scoring, defending, passing, rebound, or whatever else the team might need from him that night.
That Swiss Army ability is one of the reasons that Madison Prep this summer has played more through the post than any time I can remember of the Chargers. Kobe’s ability to play at the low post, high post, and on the wing makes him a dangerous scoring threat from anywhere on the court, and if he continues to pass the way he has this summer, they will be near impossible to beat next season. Especially when that pass is a lob to Josh LeBlanc or for a shot for Jharon Whitfield.
His ability to do a lot of different things on the basketball court also makes him a huge part of what has made Louisiana Elite so good in the Under Armour Association this season, as he leads the team in minutes. He doesn’t lead the team in any other category, but is top 3 in points, threes, rebound, blocks, steals, and FT attempts. This just shows that against the absolute top level of competition, Kobe is a huge difference maker and is one of the biggest reasons that regardless of the team, he wins a lot more than he loses.
College coaches have seen the difference that he can make, and he has a couple of scholarship offers as a result, from UL Lafayette and TCU, and has also been talking with Wichita St. lately. “I want to be able to play the 3 at the next level, so I have been working on my foot speed this summer. I want to be able to guard guards at the next level.” If he keeps working hard, there is no doubt that more teams will come around.
