Recruiting Report: Brandon Vernon (2019)
Brandon Vernon – 6’4” | SG | Pike High School
Brandon Vernon is a strong, lanky shooter from the outside. The Class of 2019 has its share of floor spacers including Vernon. Brandon plays his high school ball at Pike High School. His AAU team is EG10 2019.
With his height on the wing, he has the ability to get shots off over the defense even when contested. He rebounds well from the position with his size and athleticism.
“I’ve been playing good. Shooting the ball well and rebounding well.” He is one of the bigger bodies on this EG10 roster for this group and has helped out on the glass tremendously thus far in the spring.
Although the most of his scoring comes from facing the basket, he is able to take advantage of mismatches in the post as well. When asked about his scoring outside, he mentioned that he has been posting smaller people well too.
His versatility on the offensive end doesn’t stop there. He’s been working on creating off the bounce as well. “I’ve been able to create a lot better for myself and teammates off the bounce. Pushing the ball off a miss has really helped.”
Pike had a good month of June as well. “We only lost one game by two to South Bend Riley on a buzzer beater.” Brandon is coming off his sophomore season in which he averaged 8.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Red Devils. Those numbers are likely to increase with his increased playing time and position on the floor.
As the month of June comes to an end, everyone is gearing up for July’s exposure periods. “Getting more athletic and creating off the bounce with the fewest number of dribbles.”
With the open contact period started, Vernon has heard from Wright State University, the University of Ole Miss, and Purdue University. IUPUI has already offered and they have been in contact as well.
Recent interest is coming from Indiana State University and he is planning on visiting soon.
Brandon wants to play in a program that has a family feel and a coaching staff that pushes the players to elevate their game.
Keep an eye on Vernon out on the wing. He is a floor spacer with his jump shot and is working on adding new scoring skills to his repertoire. A player to keep on the radar come July and the coming high school season.
