Recruiting Report: Benito Munoz (2018)
Benito Munoz – 5’11” | G | Harrison (Lafayette) | Class of 2018
Benito Munoz plays his high school ball with the Harrison Raiders in Lafayette and is playing this spring and summer AAU season with Indiana Elite Central 2018. The undersized guard has always been known for his toughness and ability to stretch the floor with the long ball but he has other things in mind this off-season to expand his game.
Indiana Elite Central 2018 has had a good start to their final AAU season with a solid spring session. “It went really well. I thought we started off the beginning of the session kind of slow, we didn’t really know how to play with each other but we started to connect with each other more and we were winning more games by the end.” This team has cycled new guys in and out over the years but this group is starting to put together some good wins as of late.
“I was a great shooter for the team and I did all of the little things we’ll need like loose balls and getting rebounds since we only have one big.” Munoz takes pride in being able to do more than just shoot the long ball. As a guard for both Harrison and Indiana Elite Central, he is needed on the glass as well because of the teams being undersized. With his strength and basketball IQ, Benito is a good rebounder for his position.
Now that we are transitioning to high school basketball and team camps, Benito is working on his game to take it to the next level.
“I am working on my point guard skills with all my high school coaches. They said I would really have to work on my point guard skills and making my teammates better [to play at the next level].” Benito showed improvements in his ball handling and confidence creating shots towards the end of last season with the Raiders and is looking to continue building on that skill.
Benito is looking forward to June with Harrison and returning to the AAU Circuit in July with his team. “The next step for me is getting recognition and working harder than I did last year, trying to make my high school and AAU team better so we can win more games.”
Harrison is returning a good amount of their varsity roster but will be looking for someone to step up and lead this team through the coming season. Benito has taken it upon himself to help lead the new and returning players to have a good senior season.
“We [Harrison] started last week and we have not been to any team camps yet but we are planning on going to Purdue on Thursday and then we are going to Findley Ohio on Friday and leaving Saturday night to go to Eastern Ohio until Tuesday night.”
When it comes to playing at the next level, Munoz was humbled for it to possibly be an opportunity. “I want coaches to know that I’m a hard-working player. I’ll do anything to improve my game and I will do anything to make my team better.”
Munoz has been contacted by coaches from Utah State and wants to be an immediate impact guy for the program. He is willing to do what it takes to make the team better and get them on a winning path.
Benito Munoz stands out both on the court with his play but also in the huddle with his coachability, attention to detail, and willingness to do whatever it takes to win ball games. Keep an eye on Munoz to continue breaking into the recruiting scene as he gears up for his senior season after averaging 17.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game with the Raiders last year.
