Recruiting Report: Asher Blum (2018)
Asher Blum – 6’7” | F | South Side | Class of 2018
Asher played his first three season of high school basketball at Warsaw but will be transferring to South Side for his senior season. Blum plays his AAU ball with Spiece Indy Heat Red 2018 and has been with the program for a few years which has helped his development.
“It’s going alright. I’ve been our leading scorer this year.” Asher has been scoring in a multitude of ways. He’s knocking down shots from deep and continues to work on his game with his back to the basket.
Asher is one of the bigger bodies that this AAU team has and knows that he can do more than just scoring to help his team win more games come July. “I need to be more aggressive rebounding in order for us to win more this summer.”
“If I have a size advantage, I’ll score in the post. If I know I can beat my guy off the dribble, I’ll score from the perimeter.” His versatility creates match-up problems for the opposition. As Blum becomes more comfortable making plays off the bounce, he will become a more dynamic scorer from the wing.
Not only is he working on his strengths this summer, he’s also working on increasing his consistency with his jump shot. “I’ve been working on my three-point shot a lot this summer to be more consistent from there.” Now playing in the SAC, Blum will have the opportunity to score from all three levels on the court with more frequency than he saw when he played at Warsaw. Adding the three-point shot to his repertoire will only make him harder to guard.
As Asher gets used to playing alongside his new teammates during the month of June, his excitement about the upcoming season only grows. “I’m excited to play with them this season.” The Archers are returning a good amount of their varsity experience from last season and adding Blum to the wing and post will add a new element to their offensive prowess.
“I have a lot of interest from NAIA schools. I’ve visited Huntington University and Grace College so far. I want good teammates and coaches who will push me to get better.”
Blum is a player that would be a good fit at the NAIA level and is not satisfied with his current skill set. “I’m working to improve my skills and my strength in the off-season.”
Keep Blum on the radar this year as he continues to develop his game on both ends of the floor to become an impact player for the Archers.
