Prospect Watch: Jace Fischer (2018)
Sturgis Brown took a step forward this year winning 14 games and Jace Fischer has been a key part of their success.
“Being more of a leader is where I think I grew the most this year,” Fischer said. “Experiences that I will remember would probably be winning the Black Hills Conference.”
Winning the league was a big deal for Sturgis High. This is a year where the Scoopers beat Aberdeen Central, St. Thomas More, Douglas (twice), and Red Cloud among others.
The 5-foot-10 Fischer was a key part of that leading his team at the guard spot. Jace wants more next year from himself and the team.
“Driving to the basket is the main thing I need to improve,” Jace said. “I really want to go to state next year. Our team hasn’t been to state in five years and it’s my personal goal for this year.”
A way to get ready for the big goals of 2017-18? Playing a stronger level of competition day in and day out with the South Dakota Heat. The Heat is having a nice year so far winning nine of sixteen games to this point.
“AAU basketball, it’s a lot rougher than school ball,” Jace said. “The refs don’t call as much so it challenges you to fight threw contact to get a bucket.”
Frederick is worried about wins as a senior. Wins and getting better. But he has the corner of his eye on the future as well.
“I’d like to play college ball but I haven’t really looked at any yet,” Jace said. “But colleges I really like is Black Hill State for basketball because it would be close to home.”
